A Brief History of Kincardine
5 May1663 - Kincardine-on-Forth is established as a burgh of barony on reclaimed marshland.
17th & 18th Centuries - The old town with its fine houses and Mercat Cross develops.
1820 - Tulliallen Castle is completed, to a design by William Atkinson.
1833 - Tulliallan Parish Church is built, replacing the older kirk dating to 1675.
1842 - Sir James Dewar, inventor of the vacuum flask, is born in the Unicorn Inn.
1936 - The Kincardine Bridge is built.
1954 - The Scottish Police College is opened in Tulliallan Castle.
1962 - Kincardine Power Station opens
1970 - Longannet Power Station opens. It was the biggest in Europe at the time and is still third-biggest.
2001 - Kincardine Power Station is demolished.
2002 - Longannet Colliery, Scotland's last deep mine, closes.
2008 - The Alloa-Kincardine railway is re-opened, but for freight only. The new Clackmannanshire Bridge is opened.
2010 - s1kincardine is launched to let residents discuss local issues, place small ads, air their opinions, advertise events and show off pictures and video.

That's the briefest of brief summaries, and hardly covers the most important dates. But this is where you come in. There's lots of interest in local history and lots of local knowledge out there - so why not share it here?
